Unfortunately the meet on the 25th of May has
had to be cancelled, hopefully all our athletes
got the message from 4CA, Sea FM or from the website
or by ringing Alana.
We have had a great start
to the year, with the Bendigo Bank Carnival a
success again, lots of records broken, a great
effort from all our athletes, and a few new members
from schools whom were not previously enrolled
in Athletics. The winning schools were 1-199 enrolments
East Palmerston School, 200-499 enrolments Malanda
High, and over 500 enrolments St Andrews College
Redlynch. Congratulations to all the athletes
at these schools for making it happen.
Our next meet, Sunday 3rd
May, will be at Marlin Coast at 9am, Smithfield
High School Grounds (off Reed Rd). This is because
relay for life will be using Barlow Park and we
could not secure the ground. We are using this
day to make a fun competition between the two
clubs, not sure on how it will work yet, but I
am sure we will sort it out on the day. We will
have relays along with the usual events, so come
along & join in with a sausage sizzle for
lunch. The two clubs have always worked well together
and we are really looking forward to another good
turn out, so please support the club & have
some fun at the same time.
The Coral Coast Track &
Field carnival is on 16th & 17th of June,
so please get your nominations in soon, this carnival
is run according to ANQ rules, and the age cut
off is 31st of December, same as school age, not
30th September as in Little A’s. It is loads
of fun, and a chance for ALL enrolled athletes
to compete from tiny tots to us oldies. We can
always use any
help on the field or in
the canteen also.
The Coaching camp at Tinaroo
Dam, for U11-U18 is on again 30th June on the
school holidays, can you please let us know of
intention of going ASAP, as we need numbers so
it will not be cancelled, because at this stage
it may be. The cost is approx. $110 – which
includes coaching, 2 nights accom, and other goodies
such as a spike bag, drink bottle etc. Well worth
it, not only loads of fun for the kids, a real
chance to learn from some of the best coaches
in Qld. Please email jagas@bigpond.com urgently
or ring Alana on 0448885445. We may also be able
to drop the age down to U10, though am still waiting
on confirmation from the powers that be.
Please refer to your yellow
year book calendar for dates and upcoming events,
we also have in June the Barrier Reef T&F
and in July Winters Competition in Townsville.
Please do not hesitate to ask the committee if
you would like information to attend. We have
both committee members & athletes already
booked to attend.
Saturday’s from 1-2pm,
for older athletes, we have fitness/core strength
training with Ingi at Rydges Plaza, Esplanade.
The club is currently subsidising this and we
have space for approx. 28 athletes. (U12 youngest
please – and serious only). This has been
successful so far, keep on supporting it.
Don’t forget, if
you can help out in the canteen, please offer
a little of your time, no cooking, just serving
and making some great new friends. Or if you can,
bring a plate of cakes to sell, as it all helps
to make our club even stronger.
