Advantages of being a Dual
Registered Member
If
a Little Athletics Member becomes a Dual Member, i.e. affiliated with both QLAA
and Qld Athletics (Athletics North Queensland), they will gain the following
advantages:
- Athletes when they
finish Little Athletics will be able to retain membership with their own
Club, retaining their sense of identity with their Centre/Club, and giving
a seamless transition into senior athletics competitions.
- Clubs will be able
to retain more members, which among other things, is to their advantage
when seeking funding.
- Parents who have
been trained, and who are active, in the coaching role will not be lost to
the Club when their children finish Little Athletics.
- Coaches who have
developed their skills with the Club will be able to continue their own
personal growth as a coach within the Club, by taking their athletes
through to senior competition.
- The older athletes
who remain in the Club become great role models for the younger athletes
following.
- Athletes will have
access to a new range of competition opportunities. Athletes within the
Athletics North Queensland region will have the opportunity to compete in
Regional Championships, , and various Inter-Club competitions.
- Because the method
of calculating ages is different between QA and QLAA, the athletes will
have the opportunity to compete against different competitors in various
competitions.
- Athletes will be
eligible to qualify for Regional, State and National Development squads.
- Athletes 14 years
and over will be eligible to qualify for the Athletics North Queensland
Athletic Team which will compete at the Oceania Grand Prix in Cairns in
December.
- Athletes will be
eligible to qualify for the Australian team which will compete at the
Oceania Championships in Townsville in 2004.
- Clubs will have
access to QA/ANQ Development Officers as well as the QLAA Development
Officers.
- Athletes will be
eligible to compete at State and National Championships in Under 16, Under
18, Under 20, and Open age groups.
- Athletes will have
the opportunity, to represent Australia at a multitude of World
Championship events. This opportunity is unavailable through the Little
Athletics system, but is available through the Athletics Australia system.
These Championships include the World Youth (Under 18) Championships, the
Commonwealth Youth Championships, the World Junior (Under 20)
Championships, World Cross-Country Championships, World University Games,
and of course, Commonwealth Games, World Track & Field Championships
and Olympic Games.
DUAL REGISTERING IS COMPULSORY FROM U11
UP, THOUGH YOUNGER AGE GROUPS MAY CONSIDER, AND ARE WELCOME TO DO SO.
